2/ The Shift in U.S. Immigration Policy Under President Trump

Posted on April 24, 2025 By admin

The transformation extended beyond U.S. borders as Trump pressured Mexico into deploying 10,000 troops to its southern frontier, effectively creating a barrier before migrants could even reach American soil. Threats of economic consequences forced Mexico to cooperate, resulting in tighter immigration control and a joint front in reducing migrant flows. This pressure, while effective in enforcement, stirred criticism from human rights groups,

who warned of rising dangers for stranded migrants facing cartel violence and exploitation. Still, the numbers spoke volumes—illegal border crossings plummeted, and U.S. immigration policy returned to the forefront of political debate. For Trump supporters, it was a validation of hardline tactics; for critics, a humanitarian concern. As America heads toward the next election, the legacy and consequences of these policies continue to divide a nation struggling to balance security, compassion, and international responsibility.
