Posted on July 29, 2025July 29, 2025 By admin

NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, 36, was one of four victims fatally shot in a tragic attack at a Midtown Manhattan high-rise on July 28, 2025. Officer Islam, who was off duty and working security at 345 Park Avenue, was struck in the back when a lone gunman opened fire in the lobby. The suspect continued to the 33rd floor, where he shot additional victims before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officer Islam had served with the NYPD’s 47th precinct for over three years and was known for his dedication and calm demeanor. A Bangladeshi immigrant, he lived in Queens with his wife and two young children. His wife is currently expecting their third child. Tributes poured in from city leaders and fellow officers, who described Islam as courageous and selfless.

Officials identified the shooter as Shane Devon Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas. A note found at the scene claimed personal grievances and mentioned possible mental health issues. The building housed corporate offices, including that of the NFL, though authorities said the motive remains under investigation. Law enforcement is working with federal agencies to complete a thorough review.

Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul both expressed deep condolences, calling the attack a senseless tragedy. Islam is being honored as a hero who gave his life protecting others. A memorial is being planned in his honor, as New York City continues to support the grieving families and community.
