Pilot warned he “needed fuel” before Hudson River helicopter crash

The tragic helicopter crash over the Hudson River on Thursday, April 10, claimed the lives of six people, including a family of five visiting from Barcelona and their 36-year-old pilot. The helicopter had taken off from Wall Street Heliport for a short sightseeing tour and was in the air for just 16 minutes before the disaster struck near Pier 40.

Eyewitnesses described the chopper “splitting in half” mid-air, with the rotor separating from the aircraft before it plunged into the river. Victims included Agustin Escobar, the CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three young children. The family had just arrived in New York earlier that day.
