2/ How the new Pope is chosen and who it might be after Pope Francis’ death

Posted on April 21, 2025 By admin

The process, steeped in centuries-old rituals, begins with the papal conclave—a secretive and solemn gathering of the College of Cardinals, all handpicked by previous Popes. Over 200 senior cardinals will convene in the Sistine Chapel, voting up to four times per day until a candidate secures a two-thirds majority.

Though the role has no formal age limit, only men are eligible, and open campaigning is strictly prohibited. As dramatized in the 2024 film Conclave, the selection is both spiritual and strategic, guided by prayer, reflection, and divine inspiration—ushering in a new chapter for the Catholic Church.
