The tragic death of seven-week-old Jimmy Alderman has raised awareness about the dangers of hands-free breastfeeding in a sling. His mother, Ellie, believed he was safe, but his positioning restricted oxygen flow, leading to suffocation. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away three days later, prompting urgent updates to baby-wearing safety guidelines.
In response, the NCT and Lullaby Trust now warn against breastfeeding in slings, and the NHS has pledged to improve safety guidance. Jimmy’s parents have since launched “Jimmy’s Cuddle,” raising awareness and funds to prevent similar tragedies, ensuring their son’s legacy protects other babies.
