Expert says kissing dog on mouth can result in loss of limbs or death, pet owners willing to take the risk

While kisses from our furry companions may seem sweet and harmless, experts are warning that they can pose serious health risks. A TikTok video by a physician assistant has gone viral for raising awareness about Capnocytophaga canimorsus, a potentially life-threatening bacteria found in the mouths of cats and dogs.

This bacteria can enter the human body through close contact like kisses or even a small scratch, leading to severe complications such as sepsis, gangrene, or even limb amputation. According to the CDC, those who are immunocompromised, elderly, or without a spleen are especially vulnerable, but even healthy individuals have been affected. Several cases, including the death of actress Charlbi Dean and multiple instances of amputations, serve as grim reminders of the risks involved.
