Pattie Mallette, best known as the mother of global pop sensation Justin Bieber, has a story that runs much deeper than the spotlight surrounding her son. A scriptwriter and producer, Pattie’s early life was marked by pain and trauma. Born in Stratford, Ontario, her childhood was filled with emotional and physical abuse, grief, and hardship that led her into a downward spiral of addiction and rebellion by her early teens.
By 14, she was using drugs and alcohol, eventually dropping out of school and facing homelessness. After a suicide attempt, an encounter with Christian volunteers during her recovery began to shift her path. Then, at just 18 years old, Pattie discovered she was pregnant—and made the life-altering decision to keep the baby. That baby was named Justin.
